20 Must Ask Questions When Visiting College Campuses

It’s College Visit Day!

One of the best ways to get to know your new school is by attending your College Visit Day that has been set up for you. Your college tour will be your new friend.

I still remember to this day my campus visit and boy did I have a lot of questions about the school.

Being a transfer student and enrolling as a Junior, I thought I should have already known everything about the college, but I didn’t.

I felt like I was a new incoming freshman. I knew I was going to need to have a lot of questions answered before starting in the fall.

Upon arriving to your new school, you will be all excited and ready to explore the campus.

Most colleges require you to come to Orientation. This is where you will be registering for your classes, meeting with your Academic Advisor and learn about many different helpful resources about the school.

At most schools, like mine (University of Iowa), you will take a tour and learn about the campus in a small group; usually around ten students in a group that is usually ran by one or two student guides.

If you are staying overnight, many students tour the campus on the first day and on the second day, students will meet with their Advisor and sign up the next day for the classes they will be taking.

If you are not sure which questions to ask on your campus visit, here are 20 things you might want to find out before you leave campus!

  1. What are the general education requirements for graduation?
  2. What kind of dorm choices are there?
  3. Where are the best places to study?
  4. What activities are offered to students?
  5. How many students live on campus?
  6. What are the top majors at this school?
  7. What do students do on weekends?
  8. Are there good job opportunities around campus for students?
  9. What clubs are offered on campus?
  10. How easy is it to switch majors?
  11. What places on campus offer student meals?
  12. How are roommates chosen?
  13. Is there a gym on campus, and if so is it free for students?
  14. What is it like to live on campus?
  15. Does the college have a campus shuttle service?
  16. How difficult is it to enroll in a class you need?
  17. Are there internships available?
  18. Is tutoring available for students?
  19. What sororities and fraternities are there?
  20. Do you feel safe on this campus? What are the security measures here?

Don’t miss out on this opportunity and make sure you attend your campus visit. You will learn a lot,  get to see a lot of different things and find out where everything is located. You don’t want to get lost on your first day!

Remember don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is your new school. Your new home. You need to know everything about your school and where you will be spending the next few years living.
