6 Cool Ways To Show School Spirit

One of the greatest parts about the college experience is the sense of community that you feel with your fellow students.

Representing your school name positively can give you a great feeling of pride, and doing so is a lot of fun.

Student life, student government, and the athletic department put a lot of work into giving you the opportunity the have school spirit, but it is up to you to act upon it.

Here’s how:

Sporting Event: Going to your school sporting events is probably the biggest way to show school spirit. Paint your face, dress in your school colors, and be as loud as you can cheering on the athletes with your friends. Make a whole day out of sporting events by tailgating before or having a party after. If you go to a big school and can’t get tickets to the game, gather up your friends and watch from a nearby sports bar or have a viewing party in your dorm (you’ll be able to scream at a bad play just as loudly).

Wear your college apparel: One of the easiest ways to show school spirit is by wearing it. Stock up on sweatshirts, T-shirts, and sweatpants, and wear your school colors to the gym, the store, to class, and to lounge around in on the weekends. College apparel makes great gifts for friends and family members, and gives them a chance to represent you and your college. Plus college apparel is comfy, cute, and easy to find in the bookstore.

Bumper stickers: Grab a bumper sticker from the book store and parade your school name around town, the state, or the country on the back of your car. Decorate your back windshield with stickers representing not only your school, but also your sorority, sports team, or major as well. You will see how many people stop you in random parking lots when they see you getting into your car with their alma mater on the back.

Be a tour guide: Show your knowledge and pride in your school to the most interested people—prospective students and their parents. Get them excited by showing them your campus, and sharing your stories. As an added bonus, tour guides get paid!

Word of mouth: The most obvious ways to show school spirit is by giving your college a good name. Tell your younger friends, who are in the college market, about the positives of your school and invite them to visit. Though it may be easy to vent via the web, talk positively about your school on social media sites, blogs, and forums (you never know who’s reading).

Take a lot of pictures: A great way to keep your great college memories is by taking pictures. Bring your camera to parties, sporting events, extracurriculars, and while just hanging out with friends, and snap away. Hang your pictures in you room, send them home to mom, or post them on Facebook (only appropriate ones of course). These photos should remind you of the happy times in college, now, five years from now, and 20 years from now.
