A Man’s Guide To College Fashion

Fashion, like many things in life, is all about personal choice. Your individual style is unique to you and your personality. But with college being such a fast paced place of hustle and bustle, it is very easy to lose track of your fashion sense because you are so focused on being the best student you can be (and rightfully so).

With that being said, it is very helpful to have a few staple items that you can mix and match easily so that you can remain fashion forward while still keeping up with your busy college life. This list is specifically for the young men on their way to college and eager to know a little about college fashion for men.

Flawless Fall

When you enter college, it is typically during the fall months. This is when the hot, summer weather is cooling off and the wind is a little chilly. Some staple fall fashion items that can be found in the closets of many college men are:

  • Cargo shorts
  • Earth toned cardigan/sweaters (brown, tan, dark green, etc…)
  • Blazers/Light Jacket
  • Casual shoes (such as Toms or just average gym shoes)
  • Sandals
  • Jean and Khakis
  • Scarves (pairing a scarf with a T-shirt and a blazer is a sure recipe for stylish success)
  • Basic white and black T-shirts

Mix and match the above items with items you already have in your closet for a fun and relaxed fall look!

Whimsical Winter

Fortunately for all you fashionable young college men out there, a lot of the staple items from the fall list can be mix and matched with items in the winter list as well. Actually, a lot of the items from the winter list are on the fall list! Some pieces of clothing that college men should have for winter are:

  • Sweaters (comfy and casual)
  • Jeans/Khakis
  • Basic white and black shirts (long or short sleeved)
  • Boots (combat boots are always a great, funky addition to the male college closet)
  • Coat (For example, pea coats five a nice, sophisticated look. You’ll feel like the James Bond of your college campus!)

Add a few of these items to your college wardrobe list and be prepared to be stylish no matter how busy your college schedule gets!

Sophisticated Spring

In spring, the school year is winding down a bit and your desire to be fashionable may be declining due to exams and other school requirements. It’s a good thing that spring fashion staples can be easy to put together to make a rocking ensemble on even your busiest of days. Some items to have in your college may be:

  • Jacket (leather, denim, or just a light weight jacket of your choice)
  • Shorts (cargo shorts, blue jeans shorts, etc… Your choice!)
  • Jeans/Khakis
  • Basic white and black shirts (long or short sleeved)
  • Gym shoes (such as Converse or casual shoes)
  • Scarves (again, pairing these with a shirt and jacket is a great idea)
  • Umbrella (this is not actually an item of clothing but an umbrella is essential to spring during those typical rainy months. Soaked clothes are not very fashion forward)
  • Comfortable sandals
  • Graphic T-shirts
  • Cardigans

Spring is when the winter weather is thawing into a warmer weather, though chilly weather is still experienced. Mix and match the above items according to your region’s weather.

Sunny Summer

Though school is out for the summer for most students, some students take summer classes and are still in school while most of us are enjoying our summer vacation. When those summer months hit, don’t let the heat keep you from being the fashion forward young man you want to be! Use some of the below items to keep your wardrobe cool and fun:

  • Shorts (cargo, blue jean, etc…)
  • Basic white and black T-shirts
  • Sandals
  • Graphic Tees

The items listed above are just a few staple items that you can add to your college wardrobe so you’ll remain the fashionable young man you have always been or even become the fashionable young man you’ve always wanted to be. Being a fashion savvy college man can be difficult, given the hectic schedules thrust upon college students, but it is certainly not impossible. Fashion is all about your personal style for self-expression. Whatever you chose to wear, rock it!
