5 Warm Weather Activities For College Students

If you go to school anywhere that has winters full of snow, sleet, and frosty breath, you’ll know what I mean when I say that when the warm weather comes, the entire campus feels different.

When the sun starts shining brighter and you can officially hand up your parka and mittens, take advantage of the weather with these activities:

  • Study outside: Don’t trap yourself indoors with homework or reading as your excuse. Grab your computer (fully charged) a blanket and your notebooks and take your workspace outdoors. Trust me algebra gets better when you’re breathing in fresh air. If you’re not doing homework, still relax outside. Put on your sunglasses and iPod and bring a recreational book outside, take a nap in the warm sun, or have a picnic with friends.
  • Take a road trip: Find a friend with a car and get away from campus! Either take a weekend trip to the beach or take a couple hour getaway to nowhere. Open the windows, turn the music up, and drive! It’s a great bonding experience for you and your car mates and a great way to relieve stress by singing along with the radio at the top of your lungs.
  • Exercise outside: Who wants to be in a windowless gym when the outdoors has such a great fitness plan to offer. Bring out a Frisbee, organize a pick up game, or go for a walk or hike either on campus, in a nearby neighborhood, park or beach. Another idea is to get your friends together and bring the exercise class outside. Bring out yoga mats for outdoor stretching or a CD player for fresh air aerobics.
  • Volunteer: During the winter months, getting out of the warmth of your dorm for anything but class and food are a chore. Use the warm weather as motivation to give back to the community. Go to a local school and see if they need volunteers for after school care, become a dog walker or volunteer to plant local gardens.
  • Spring Cleaning: Since dorm rooms are small, during the Winter months your Spring clothes and bed spreads may be in storage or still at home. When the warm weather comes, take the chance to redecorate or reorganize your room. Pack up your winter gear and replace it with your sandals, shorts, and t-shirts. Replace your down comforter with a lighter blanket or quilt. Put some flowers or plants on your winter sill, and get a new fresh rug, free of Wintertime slush and dirt. Last but not least, get out your fans, open up your windows and fill your space with lots of fresh, circulating air.
