Easy Dorm Recipes

So you’re sick of eating in the dining hall, but have no motivation to cook a “real meal.” Have no fear, you can make easy dorm recipes from the comfort of your room! All you need is a few key ingredients (that you probably keep in your mini fridge anyway) and a handy dandy microwave.

Now I know that not everyone is on board with the microwave. Many people believe that there are health risks involved with them. While I do believe some of this myself, I also believe that nothing is better for making easy dorm recipes in your college dorm room than a microwave. Well maybe an air freshener, but after that…a microwave!

Here are 5 easy dorm recipes that you can prepare all with your microwave. They might not sound like the classiest of meals, but I promise that they will taste delicious! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and a snack!

Easy Dorm Recipes # 1: Breakfast

Broke-Kid Cinnamon Rolls

1 slice of bread of your choice

Butter/ Margarine

Cinnamon

Sugar

Cut the crust off of bread. Flatten bread with a heavy object you have laying around (textbook?) and spread margarine on the slice. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar to taste. Roll up bread and cut into 4 rolls. Microwave for 15 seconds and voila, the easiest cinnamon rolls you’ve ever made!

(I made this one a ridiculous amount of times in my dorm days)

1 can of tomato sauce or pizza sauce

1 bagel, sliced in half

Shredded Cheese

Veggies (optional)

Spread tomato sauce on both halves of bagel. Add cheese and veggies (if desired). Nuke for 30 seconds or until cheese is melted. Now go enjoy your pizza!

Easy Dorm Recipes #4: Dessert

PB Cups

Half a bag of chocolate chips

Peanut Butter

Cupcake tins (the paper ones)

Microwave the chocolate chips with a little bit of water until they are melted. Keep a close eye on them so that you don’t over cook them. Spoon a bit of chocolate into the cupcake tins. Microwave peanut butter just until it’s slightly melted. Spoon a scoop of peanut butter on top of the chocolate. Lastly top each with more chocolate. Stick in the fridge or freezer for about 15 minutes. Enjoy your homemade, healthier and cheaper Reese’s!

BONUS Easy Dorm Recipes #6: Drink

Mint Chocolate Latte

1 cup milk of your choice

Mix all of the ingredients together and microwave until piping hot- about 2 minutes. Enjoy on a cold December night of cramming for finals.

Remember to always use microwave safe dishes when cooking your easy dorm recipes, preferably glass or porcelain not plastic. And always pay attention to what you’re doing. You don’t want to be the kid that made the hall smell like burnt food.

They may not be 5 star quality meals, but hey you’re living in a dorm not the Ritz. Enjoy these quick and easy dorm room recipes without ever having to leave your dorm room. All recipes have been adapted from PETA’s Vegan College Cookbook.
