While shopping for new clothes to begin your college career can be an exciting thought, bringing it into reality can be difficult. College is expensive and it leaves very little money left over to shop for new clothes and accessories to compliment your new college self. During my first year of college, I became the self-proclaimed queen of bargain shopping. I did not have a lot of money and I refused to pay over a certain price for clothes and accessories, which led me to discovering different places to find clothing for cheap. Listed below are a few places to find clothing for your personal style without breaking your personal bank.

  • Thrift Store

Thrift stores are a great place to find unique and fun clothes for very low prices. Goodwill, for example, is a thrift store that sells donated clothing for low prices. Look through the many racks of clothes, including everything from t-shirts to jeans, and see what speaks to your personal style. Mix and match for added flair and versatility. Check out the hats, belts and jewelry sections for accessories. Thrift stores even have sections with little cute trinkets that you can use to decorate your dorm room.

Search your neighborhood for different thrift stores that you can shop in to find clothes for low prices. I personally have never spent more than twenty dollars at the thrift stores of my choice and I always come out with multiple bags filled with clothes. Now that’s how to build a wardrobe on a budget! Do your research on thrift stores in your community. It is also fun to spend time with friends raiding through the thrift store, searching for bargains.

I know that some people like to avoid online shopping but eBay is a personal favorite of mine that I can’t keep a secret. Ebay is a great place online that sells just about anything you could type into the search engine, including clothes. The products come from individual sellers who post their products to the site. Look at the seller’s rating to see if they are trustworthy and if their item will be as described.

Ebay is an amazing place to find distinctive and cute clothes for low prices when you’re trying to learn how to build a wardrobe on a budget. For example, if you are looking for an off the shoulder, purple shirt, just type it into the search engine and a flood of options will be presented to you. Find what best suits your preference and style and buy it, if it’s in your price range.

Ebay sellers very often have free shipping as well. Shopping on eBay may require you to do a bit of searching so that you can find the lowest prices for you, but it is well worth it. You can find different and funky pieces to enhance your wardrobe and add to the new, college you!

  • Online Shopping

Ebay is just one particular site out of many different websites that sell clothing for cheap. Even the websites for your favorite, popular clothing retailers can have clothes for low prices. Always go to the sale section of the websites where the low prices are in abundance. Also, websites often have special deals on clothing that is only for online shoppers. Take advantage of these sales and find the clothes that fit your personality that also fit into your budget.

  • Clearance Racks

I created a habit for myself that carried over into my first year of college. Whenever I went into a clothing store, I immediately went to the clearance racks. Clearance racks were my saving grace when I was trying learn how to build a wardrobe on a budget. I did not even look at the other clothes (I called it budget tunnel vision). I just headed straight for the clearance racks where I knew the clothes would be cheaper since they were on sale.

Never avoid the clearance racks of your favorite retail shops. Not only are the clothes marked down to low, affordable prices, but this is the place to find clothes to mix and match with clothes you already have in order to amplify your style. Clearance racks can be your best friends!

Shopping for clothes in college can be difficult for college students with very little money. It is difficult, but surely not impossible. Make sure to set a budget for yourself so that you won’t spend more money than you can. Stick to your budget and implement the above shopping locations.
