How To Post Things On Pinterest

Pinterest? What is that? Many people may not even know what it is. You might not even know how to pronounce it.

Pinterest is a website where you post (or “pin”) a whole different variety of pictures of things you love and enjoy, and you share those pictures with the world.

This site caters mainly to women, I don’t know too many men who use it, but it’s definitely a fun website to browse and pin random things.

So how do you even use Pinterest? I am going to give you the run down on how to use it if you are new to the site. It’s quite simple. You’ll be pinning in no time.

  • Create an Account

When Creating an Account on Pinterest, you will be required to enter your email address and “request an invitation.” Once you receive  your invitation via email and are able to set up your account, you will then be able to create boards and pin photos.

  • Create Your Own Boards

A board is where you organize your pins by topic. You can create as many boards as you like.

Here are some examples of TheCollegeHelper.com’s Pinterest Boards: Holiday Treats, Trendy Flats, Easy College Recipes, College Cleaning Tips, Sweet School Supplies, and Dorm Room Decor.

Boards can be created as public (for everyone to view) or secret (where you are the only one who can view it). You may also invite other people to Pin with you on any of your boards.

  • Start Pinning!

A Pin is where you will be adding a picture or video onto your certain board topic.

You can add a pin from a website using the URL or you may upload a picture right from your computer.

Any pin posted on Pinterest can be re-pinned and all pins link back to the original source.

  •  Follow/Un-Follow People

By following someone on Pinterest, all of their Pins will be displayed within your Home feed page. You can Follow all of someone’s boards or just a certain few boards that you enjoy the most. If you want to manage who you are following, go to your profile and click “Following.” By Un-following someone, all of their pins will be taken off your home feed page.

  • Search Tool

In the top left hand corner you will see the search engine. You can search for a certain topic of a pin you might want to post or you may scroll over the little icon with three lines and that will give you a variety of different categories to choose from. There are over 30 different categories.

  • Re-Pins

Re-pins are the “retweets” of Pinterest. Repinning is where you share a photo from someone else’s page or just by browsing a topic and adding it to your own board. Re-Pinning gives credit to the person who pinned it first. You don’t have to be following that person in order to re-pin a photo.

  • Who Uses Pinterest?

There are over 10.4 Million users who use Pinterest. Approximately 80% of users are women, while only about 20% are men. In terms of age, the average age of users is between 20-35 years old. The lowest age among Pinterest users is 12 to 17.

By now you should be a Pinterest pro! Explore all the categories and have fun on your page. It’s fun to create boards of things you like and let people see what you are interested in.
