Most Beautiful College Campuses

What’s one aspect of a college campus that can awe any perspective student? The architecture and landscape. I feel that students and their parents are more likely to leave a college satisfied if they thought the campus was absolutely beautiful.

The look of a campus is extremely important in making your decision. After all, this college campus is going to become your new home for the next four years. You should truly consider the campus setting on each college tour you take.

America’s most beautiful college campuses are determined by their architecture, landscaping, and surroundings. With thousands of colleges across the country, these are some of the most beautiful college campuses in the United States.

University of Notre Dame (South Bend, IN)

The golden dome of the main building adds to the beauty of the Neo-Gothic Basilica of the Sacred Heart that is a symbol of this 150-year-old Catholic school. The campus also provides several green quad areas for students to congregate at when the weather is nice and they want to relax on campus.

University of San Diego (San Diego, CA)

This campus is filled with architecture which brings the Spanish Renaissance style to life. The ocean views and palm trees that line the courtyards only make this campus look even more like a heavenly paradise.

Berry College (Mount Berry, GA)

Berry College offers a rural campus with more than 26,000 acres of fields, lakes, forests, and mountains. The buildings are constructed with the English Gothic style.

Lewis & Clark College (Portland, OR)

I’ve found this school on several lists for most beautiful schools in America. The campus is only six miles from downtown but offers 137 acres of forests, pathways, and magnificent stone walls. Near a reflecting pool, you can witness an incredible view of Mount Hood.

Rice University (Houston, TX)

Rice University is surrounded by large oak trees with divided sections of campus that include elms, hickories, maples, and other trees. The buildings incorporate medieval southern European architecture such as arched passageways and rose-colored brick.

Cornell University (Ithaca, NY)

One of the main quads on campus is located on the Cayuga Lake. The rest of campus is filled with historic structures such as McGraw Tower and contemporary structures.

Sewanee, the University of the South (Sewanee, TN)

The 13,000 acre campus overlooks the Tennessee Valley and combines Gothic architecture with beautiful natural resources such as forests, lakefronts, and a garden ravine with a stream that runs through the campus. This campus is especially stunning in the springtime.

Kenyon College (Gambier, OH)

Kenyon College has one of the most gorgeous campus walks in Ohio. The 10-foot-wide Middle Path spans the length of the college and is shaded by enormous trees which turn a glowing orange in the fall. The buildings on campus are of Victorian Gothic architecture.

Indiana University (Bloomington, IN)

The Limestone structures and buildings bring a unique architecture to this campus. Among the red brick path and numerous flowerbeds, the big clock tower serves as an exclusive part of the campus design.

Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, PA)

Swarthmore’s Scott Arboretum has gardens of hydrangea, lilacs, and peonies that contribute to a courtyard filled with various trees and scrubs. The highlight of this campus is the outdoor amphitheater that is surrounded by the Crum woods.

Yale University (New Haven, CT)

The architecture of this university encompasses the Georgian-style and Postmodernist style. Yale embraces the history of architecture, but also incorporates urbanism into its look. It’s absolutely beautiful to walk through this campus on a fall day.

University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI)

The Memorial Union and stone terrace (with bright green, orange, and yellow chairs) is located right on the shore of Lake Mendota. The white-columned Bascom Hall is also a very integral piece of architecture on the campus.

Furman University (Greenville, SC)

This wooded university is centered near a lake and the Bell Tower. The campus has a Buddhist temple next to the school’s Asia Garden which is filled with irises, bamboo, and camellias.

University of Dayton (Dayton, OH)

Okay, I’m throwing my biased opinion in my article because the campus of UD is one of the top reasons why I chose to spend my college career here. For a school in Ohio, I think the University of Dayton offers one of the top five most beautiful campuses. The grass is always green and blossoming trees and flowerbeds fill every pathway. The trees truly add a splash of color in the spring and fall!
