No Fear, College Essay Help Is Here!

The dreaded essay portion of a scholarship application. It’s something everyone has to experience, and it doesn’t stop after you apply and get into a college.

Scholarships tend to be needed for many years and the goal is to get so good at it, people are practically throwing money at you, begging you to go to college for free.

There are a few steps to go through to make sure you write the most successful essay you can.

1. What questions are you answering?

The first thing that is vital for the essay is knowing exactly what the question(s) you need to ask are. Some have you choose from a list of things to write from, while others are very direct and don’t give you much room for choice. Whatever the option is, make sure you continuously return to the question, making sure you’re answering everything correctly, especially if it is a broken up into multiple parts. It’s important for you to understand what they want and are expecting when they read your essay.

2. Who’s reading your essay?

After you have clearly figured out what they are wanting from you, think about the audience that will be reviewing the essay. Now, I’m not suggesting you have to censor yourself or make yourself seem different than what you really are, but it’s important to realize that some people will read things in different ways. It’s important to make sure that your essay is clear, straightforward, and tailored to make sure your audience will understand where you’re coming from. If you don’t know the specific people who will be looking over your essay, you can usually tell by the scholarship on what kind of people will be reviewing it.

3. Did you add your own personal style to it?

My biggest piece of advice while writing your essay, is putting your own flair and personality into it. This is key in writing a successful and brilliant essay. Nobody wants to read an essay void of any human emotion, that’s what they’re looking for! They want to know that you’re a real person that deserves this money you so badly need! I learned that as academic and intelligent you want to come off as, it isn’t nearly as important as making sure you’re in your essay. Don’t take yourself out just because you feel like it’s going to get less professional or too informal. Being able to write an essay outlining your answer while also shining through it is how you’re going to capture their hearts. I remember one of my best essays talked about how I’m seeing traits of my father starting to show through me. It was good because it was real and it showed I could relate it back to my life.

4. Did you proofread?

After you have your essay written, it’s important to proofread, proofread, proofread. And after you’ve done it, ask a couple of other people to do the same. There is nothing worse than not taking the time to edit and make sure you’re sending in the best copy possible and later finding a silly misspelling or a missing comma. It’s going to look really bad if you’ve written a wonderful sounding essay but they can clearly tell that you didn’t take the time to revise.

There’s no reason to be intimidated by the process of creating a good scholarship essay. You just have to give yourself time to really think about what you want to present to the scholarship committee. I want to again stress the importance of putting your creativity and charm into your essay, no matter how formal it might seem. Don’t be afraid to take risks; it will make you stand out in the crowd, and that’s what’s key.
