Saving Dorm Space and Staying Organized: Ladies Edition
Living in a college dorm room, especially during your freshman year, often means that you have very little space for all of your things. This becomes even more apparent when you have one or multiple roommates.
Even with just one roommate that means two beds, two desks, two dressers, two closets, two wardrobes, two giant stacks of textbooks…the list goes on and on.
Before the piles of things gathered on the floor gets too large try some space saving organizational strategies. Implementing just a few of them can help clear up some of that floor space and make your dorm room much more livable. You might actually be able to fit a few guests in the room!

1. Shoe Space Savers:
One item that is guilty of taking up way too much floor space is your shoe collection. Add up few pairs of tennis shoes, some flats, a pair of boots, shower shoes, snow boots, flip-flops and some dress shoes and you will have to hopscotch your way to your bed. This is obviously not ideal.
One great way to manage that mayhem with an under-the-bed shoe organizer. These can save you space and make sure your pairs of shoes always stay in pairs.
You can find these in a few varieties. The one in the picture hangs from the space under your mattress much like a bed skirt. You can also find styles that go right underneath your bed.
2. Over the Door Shower Organizer:
This nifty tool can save you a lot of space. If you are lucky enough to have your own bathroom, it is more than likely not going to be very large. If counter and shower storage space is limited you can grab one of these to hang over your bathroom door.
Even if you don’t have your own bathroom this is a great tool to have if you do your hair and make-up inside of your dorm room.
It can easily hold brushes, hair dryers, curling irons, hairsprays and makeup supplies.
3. Jewelry Hanging Picture Frame:
These have become increasingly popular in the last year and are a great way to keep your jewelry organized without having it get tangled up and shoved in a drawer somewhere. These frames can be held up with a command hook so you don’t do any permanent damage to the walls.
They are also very easy to make yourself. You can buy a picture frame that you like or that matches your dorm decor and put some lace inside the frame. With lace you can hang any size jewelry and arrange it however you like.
4. Desk Drawer Organizer
Having a well organized desk drawer can make all of the difference when it comes to keeping your school work organized. A good stock of office supplies that are easily accesible will make it easier to keep your desk from becoming a big cluttered mess.
When you are in a rush to get that paper or project turned it, it will help cut down on your stress to know exactly where your stapler, scissors and paper clips are.
5. Purse or Scarf Holders
This can be a great tool to save space in your closet and save you time if you are rushing out the door. Use metal wire frames that are meant for manila folders and put them on the wall using command hooks. This will make your fabulous collection easily accessible and keep your scarves and purses from being strewn about the room on any open surface.
