Thank You Letter for Recommendation

Writing letters of recommendation is hard work!

During college application season, it is likely that your teachers, counselors, coaches, and supervisors will be receiving a lot of requests to write recommendation letters for students.

Be sure to take time out of your schedule to send your recommenders thank you letters.

Below I’ve provided 3 examples of how you can say thank you to your recommenders.

  • Example #1:

Dear Ms. Miller,

Thank you for submitting a letter of recommendation to attend (fill in the blank) University on my behalf.  I appreciate your support of my academic endeavors.

I have always considered your classes to be valuable and I know that the knowledge I’ve gained will help me as I continue my academic journey.  Thanks again.

  • Example #2:

Dear Mr. Jones,

Thank you so much for writing a letter of recommendation for me to attend (fill in the blank) University.  I’ve been accepted, and I’m sure it was at least in part due to your kind recommendation.  I believe (School Name) is a great fit for me and I am really looking forward to starting classes in the Fall.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sticking your neck out for me, and will do my best to make you proud!

Again, thank you.

  • Example #3:

Dear Dr. Smith,

Thank you for taking the time to write a letter of recommendation on my behalf.  I know that recommendation letters take a great deal of time, energy, and effort, and I appreciate your support throughout this process.  I will keep you updated on my progress.  Thanks again.
