Time Management Strategies for Students

One skill that every modern day college student needs is the ability to multitask.

Most students today are involved in multiple activities outside of the classroom.

Besides having multiple majors or minors, today’s average college student is either involved in at least one of the following: music, theatre, athletics, student government, greek life, or other clubs or organizations on campus.

College is the time for ultimate multitasking. If students come to college not having the experience of organizing and planning their own schedule, they can run into some major issues until they learn how to manage their time successfully.

Interestingly enough, the students who are involved in more clubs are the ones that know how to manage all of their responsibilities. The ones that run into trouble are the students who just have to balance their class schedule and social life.

This can be quite the difficult task for freshman who are living on their own for the first time in their lives because going to parties can be more appealing than doing homework.

Erik Westerberg, junior captain and linebacker of the Augustana College football team developed his time management and organizational skills as a freshman and has been honored as an academic all-american for the past two years. Westerberg credits his success on and off the field to his daily planning and his calendar app on his iPhone.

In the video below, Erik explains some of the ways he manages his time in order to stay on task throughout the week. He calls time management a practiced habit and an acquired skill that improves as you get older.
