Top 5 Study Abroad Programs: Choose Your Adventure

Studying abroad is both a cultural and academic endeavor that can open up your worldview, give you global connections, and push your personal development.

International Education of Students (IES) surveyed alumni from their program and found that 97% said it helped them with increased maturity and 96% gained more self-confidence.

Along with the personal development, studying abroad gives a new look at the world that couldn’t be attained by sitting around reading about it in a textbook.

Another IES survey showed that 82% of students believed that studying abroad helped them develop a more sophisticated look at the world.

With that being said, if studying abroad sounds like something up your alley, here are five of the top study abroad colleges according to USA Today College.

  •  CEA: Aix-en-Provence

This program offered in both year long and semester long sessions, it is located in the beautiful town of Aix-en-Provence in France. Along with it’s beautiful architecture and culture, it offers experience for Foreign Language Liberal Arts, Humanities, and Business majors along with many others. It offers instruction in both in English and French depending on student’s preference.

  •  Sant’Anna Institute – Sorrento Lingue

This program offers only semester long sessions and is located in Sorrento, Italy. Some of the experience that one can acquire while studying include Liberal Arts/Humanities, Business Administration, and Italian. They also provide service learning which let them use what they have learned in the classroom and apply it in a professional setting while also helping the community they are living in. It offers instruction in both English and Italian.

  • IES Abroad: Beijing Foreign Studies University

This program offers both year long and semester long sessions. Located in the political and cultural capital, Beijing, China, the two programs that are offered are Contemporary Issues track or the Intensive Language track. This is an intensive language program that is designed for people who have already begun learning Chinese and is designed to help you excel in learning the language quickly and efficiently. It offers instruction in only Chinese.

  •  The Education Abroad Network in Sydney

This program offers only semester long sessions. Located in Sydney, Australia, home of the famous opera house, there are no particular focus of study. Instead students will enjoy the beautiful campus, artistic neighborhoods, and many student clubs as well as a wonderful array of classes. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA in order to be eligible for the program. It offers instruction in English.

  •  University of Indianapolis: Odyssey in Athens

This program offers only semester long sessions. Located in Athens, Greece, this program has a variety of options for majors. The apartments that students are housed in look over the Acropolis and are within walking distance of the University. Along with studies, students have the opportunity to be immersed in the traditions of Greece such as dancing and cooking. It offers instruction in English.

All of these wonderful programs have so many different experiences that come along with the academic side of life. It all depends on what your future pursuits entail and what kind of country you want to make your home.
